Back to the Future: Part IV

mavica.jpg

Simon did not know what to do with the floppy disk when he got out the old skool Sony Mavica MVC-FD71 for our time-travel trip this evening.

We eventually had to leave it behind because it was weighing us down with its 1.18lb body.

Happy New Year!

happynewyear1.jpg

It is the year of the rat!

Chinese zodiac stories are pretty popular with all Chinese people. The rat is the first symbol of the zodiac and there are many tales behind this. The one I know goes something like this…

One day, all of the animals had to compete in a race which would determine their place in the zodiac. The ox was the most hardworking one so he woke up extra extra early during the morning of the race to get a head start. He really wanted to get there before everyone else. The rat was also very ambitious and wanted to win, but he was seriously concerned with his chances. So, after a night of planning, he decided to hide in the ox’s ear so he can get a free ride. When the ox was so close to the finish line, the rat jumped out and dashed to victory. (My zodiac sign, the dog, was second to last place.)

There isn’t really a moral to this story, but I can’t help but wonder if oxen are supposed to hate on rats.

If you were born in ‘60, ‘72 or ‘84, you are a rat.

On another note, here is an interesting story about the fate of rats during the rat year.

when reality becomes too real

calendar.jpg

For the past week, I have been pulling some extra long eye-blurring hours at work.  It is only Wednesday, but it also seems as if it has been a long long Monday. At this point, I got more than a case of the Mondays.  The hours and days seem to have merged together for me…

Coincidentally, Warren (the dude who is responsible for my long hours) gave us these calendars by interaction designer W. Bradford Paley. This guy does some amazing stuff.

Every day is related. Every day is attached to another day. Wednesday is the same as Monday.

No, thank you.

new york i love you, but…

I work in midtown, on the 6th floor of a big midtown building. I have to walk a bit to get to a window, since my office is kind of in the middle of the floor. This is the view from one of the big grimy windows from our office. So much has changed… 7 months ago

It snowed this morning and snow always puts me in a funky mood. However, my big brother is arriving this afternoon from Beijing and will be staying for 2 weeks, so I am looking forward to that.

It is a multimedia experience today:

little motley crew

It is Saturday, I have been awake and at work since 11am.

Saturdays are not really popular work days, so it is really quiet around here. This little corner of my work desk looks a lot different from when I first started in October
