Dia:Beacon

diabeacon.jpg

About 1.5 hours outside of the city, Dia:Beacon is one of the best museums I have ever visited…

Superb collection containing works by On Kawara, Sol Lewitt, Donald Judd, Louise Bourgeois, Bruce Nauman, Robert Smithson, Agnes Martin, Michael Heizer and, of course, my homeboy Richard Serra. All of the works were well-curated and installed in this amazing space. You know I hate to sound academic, but the space really enhanced the dialogue that took place between the art, space and viewer. I was even impressed with the Warhol (gasp!) paintings installed there.

I didn’t get to take many pictures because they kinda don’t allow photography in the museum… Besides, you just really need to see this place, especially if you are tired of the crowded museums in the city.

2 enthusiastic thumbs-up.

Weekend Mixtape 1.0

Rodrigo y GabrielaRodrigo y Gabriela

There were two very good shows this weekend… You might have missed out, but just don’t forget to check them out the next time they visit your city.

Milo and his band Ra Ra Riot played at South Street Seaport on Friday and it was a great show. If you haven’t heard of them, check them out next month at Bowery Ballroom in New York with Tokyo Police Club…

Rodrigo y Gabriela put on an excellent performance at Central Park Summerstage this afternoon. I saw them last April at Webster Hall and it was perhaps the best show I have ever seen. They are serious… Check out Diablo Rojo on YouTube… Then check them out when they come back to New York in October.
